Leeds-based industrial lubricant manufacturer ITW ROCOL is spreading some Christmas cheer by donating £1000 to The Trussell Trust on behalf of its staff in lieu of a Christmas party.

The company, who provide lubrication products into a wide range of industries including food and beverage, marine and aerospace, made the donation using funds that had been set aside for staff activities during the run up to Christmas.

HR Director Jill Coles said, “2020 has been a difficult year for everyone and charities that serve communities in the way that The Trussell Trust do have been particularly stretched as people lean on them more heavily. However, donations to charities have also dropped as people’s incomes have decreased. At ROCOL, we want to help communities and give back as much as we can. That is why we are making this donation.”

Trussell Trust support a nationwide network of food banks and together they provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty. Their aim is to end the need for food banks in the UK by helping to support people in crisis alongside tackling the root causes that lock people into poverty and build people’s resilience so they are less likely to need a food bank in the future.

In addition to this, they partner with supermarkets to increase food donations directly to local food banks, provide practical support to each food bank in its local community as well as campaigning for change to ensuring everyone can afford the essentials.

Laura Chalmers, Area Manager, Yorkshire and Lancashire, said, “Our food banks have been on the front line dealing with the devastating consequences of the pandemic, which has left many unable to afford the basics without further support. They have had to make operational changes such as extending opening hours, switching to deliver food and becoming Covid secure. They have gradually seen the situation worsen.

“Food banks in our network expect to be giving out six emergency food parcels a minute this winter. Volunteers and supporters have worked tirelessly to support their communities, but the reality is no one should be forced to turn to charity to put food on the table.

“Support for this work is needed now more than ever, and so we thank Rocol for their generous donation this Christmas to help support this vital work – thank you from the bottom of my heart on behalf of everyone at Trussell Trust.”
