MTC’s Olivia wins Business Administration Apprentice of the Year

A first-year apprentice at the Manufacturing Technology Centre has been honoured with Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training’s Business Administration Apprentice of the Year Award.

Olivia Burton, aged 19, is on the MTC’s three-year business administration apprenticeship at the Coventry-based MTC.

Olivia, who comes from Rugby and is a former pupil of Ashlawn School said her apprenticeship at the MTC had opened up a wide range of career options.

“This award shows that hard work doesn’t go unnoticed and it pays off. I love my job and progressing in my career, so it gives me a great sense of achievement,” she said.

She added, “I would 100 percent recommend the MTC business admin apprenticeship to anyone looking for a business-related apprenticeship, particularly as the scheme is structured to rotate us around various departments within the MTC. This gives us so much experience and a very good understanding of a business as a whole.”

Sharon Anderson, manager of the MTC’s business admin apprentice team said she was delighted with Olivia’s success.

“She has worked in a number of departments and has given total commitment to all that she does. She has applied herself to her studies and produced work of a very high standard. She is keen to develop her skills and demonstrates a high level of enthusiasm and a positive approach and is looking forward to developing her career at the MTC,” she said.

She added, “Although the MTC is well known and recognised for its world-class engineering apprenticeships, we have a very well developed business administration apprenticeship in which apprentices are given responsibility in a real business environment from their first day.”

MTC apprentice Connor Fulton was also short-listed for the Coventry & Warwickshire Chamber of Commerce Training’s Business Administration Apprentice of the Year award and will receive a certificate for his efforts.

The MTC was founded by the University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, the University of Nottingham and TWI Ltd. The MTC’s industrial members include some of the UK’s major global manufacturers.

The MTC aims to provide a competitive environment to bridge the gap between university-based research and the development of innovative manufacturing solutions, in line with the Government’s manufacturing strategy. The MTC is part of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult, supported by Innovate UK.
