In-Comm Training ‘Open Day’ set to attract hundreds of potential apprentices

Hundreds of young people looking for a career in engineering and manufacturing are set to descend on Aldridge next month as part of a special Open Day.
In-Comm Training, which is rated ‘Outstanding’ by Ofsted, will throw open the doors of its Technical Academy on Saturday February 8th (10am – 2pm) to provide a unique insight into life as an apprentice.
Budding engineers will be able to access all areas of the £3m facility, taking in live demonstrations and exploring the firm’s CNC zone, EDM machine, dedicated fluid power unit and the soon-to-be commissioned National Press and Tooling Centre.
They will be able to talk to tutors about the 40 different Trailblazer courses available, including mechatronics, machining, electrotechnical and product design and development.
Stuart Parker, Business Development Advisor at In-Comm Training, commented: “People’s perceptions of industry are changing slowly, so we have a job to do to accelerate the thinking and showcase exactly what a career in this sector can offer in terms of progression, pay and opportunities.
“The best way of doing this is to get young people, their parents and even mature workers looking to reskill through the doors so they can see first-hand the technology they’ll be learning on, what is involved in the courses and all the expertise our tutors can bring to the table.”
He continued: “Over 200 people are already signed up and we are expecting double that number over the four hours, with view to signing at least 100 individuals up for interviews to embark on a possible apprenticeship.
“We’ve got lots of employers already in place that have a variety of positions to fill. These include Metal Processes 1959, Precision Technologies, Metal Assemblies, PP Control & Automation, Castings PLC and Valen Fittings to name just a few firms.”
Visitors to the In-Comm Training Open Day will also be able to quiz current apprentices about the courses and the support they receive.
This will range from 1st to 3rd year learners and also workers who have embarked on the vocational route and are now in full-time employment and climbing the career ladder in industry.
Stuart concluded: “There’s nothing like getting feedback – ‘warts and all’ from your peers to help sharpen the mind. Our apprentices continue to be our best ambassadors for promoting apprenticeships as a great way to start your career.”
