Electric bike manufacturer VOLT reshores production with opening of new UK factory

British electric bike manufacturer VOLT has opened a new 20,000 sq ft production facility in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire.
The move represents a significant investment by the firm in UK manufacturing and centralises its production within a new facility that combines innovative automation with exceptional hand-craftsmanship.
Up to 30 jobs are now set to be created in the local area. Milton Keynes was chosen as a base for its transportation links position as a growing innovation hub.
For the founding brothers, James and Lyle Metcalfe, onshoring production has long been desirable as part of the firm’s bid to aid its development. VOLT’s new manufacturing base positions the brand for accelerated growth and reinforces its commitment to British manufacturing and high-quality production.
VOLT’s co-founder, James Metcalfe, commented: “We are very proud to fully-commit VOLT to the UK and excited to be part of British manufacturing’s resurgence. It has been a fantastic achievement to get the space up and running despite the added burden placed on our teams during the current COVID-19 restrictions. In recent times, the COVID-19 outbreak has boosted interest in e-bikes as commuters have sought alternatives to public transport. Through the crisis, VOLT has witnessed a significant spike in demand, and this new base will allow the company to increase its output in response.
In addition to increased production capacity, the move this move solidifies VOLT’s position as a leading UK e-bike brand and innovator in the electric transport field.
